What did I think of this book? I thought this book was fucking amazing. Tears of Tess made me feel like a bipolar schizophrenic with a meth habit. I needed every page of this book, and for about half of this book I hated myself for it.
Tess Snow lived her life feeling unwanted and rejected by those who were supposed to love her and accept her. She also lived her life feeling unfulfilled. She knew that she was unlike everyone else around her, and she knew that the things she wanted weren't normal or necessarily healthy. But that didn't stop her from wanting them. The moment that Tess' life is thrown into a tailspin, and she has to become a baser version of herself in order to survive, is the moment that Tess has always been waiting for. In an instance of "be careful what you wish for," Tess must survive a dark world where hope is lost and humanity is stolen. This world leads Tess to a billionaire recluse who hides a raging beast and completely strips Tess of who she's always been in order to reveal who she really is.
Do not confuse this story with "Fifty Shades of Grey." Christian Grey has got nothing on Q. Tess Snow isn't able to reign in Q's animalistic tendencies. If anything, she allows him to let them loose. If I were to compare Tess and Q to any two characters, I'd compare them to Mac and Barrons. The major difference between the two, and the one that I think makes this series so addicting, is that the evil exists in the world of humans, and the demons that Tess must fight are just like you and me.
This book isn't for the faint of heart. It involves violence and rape. Love and hate. Hope and fear. The hero seems just as bad as the villains, and the heroine wouldn't be the poster child for the feminist movement. I loved it anyway. I connected with these characters. Maybe I have a beast inside that this story feeds, but then maybe we all have a similar beast. Pepper Winters' writing is superb, and her imagination is ghastly. She creates a world that is far removed from most of our happy lives, but it's still real. "Tears of Tess" made my skin crawl and my blood boil one moment, and turned me on the next. It's a disturbing read that's got me hooked, and I'm so ready for the next one. Try it!
