SYNOPSIS:
Something is wrong with Isabelle Lee. She often finds her mother crying at night because the sudden death of her father and now has turned to binging and purging in order to cope with the loss. When her little sister catches her and tells her mother, Isabelle is forced to go to group therapy. One day Isabelle is shocked when she finds that Ashley Burnham, the prettiest and most popular girl in school is also dealing with an eating disorder. Isabelle soon starts to realize that just because your beautiful on the outside, doesn't mean every aspect in your life is "perfect".
REVIEW:
The story itself was interesting, it's the perspective that drew me away. Isabelle is a selfish and, quite frankly annoying character. She doesn't care about her best friends who she grew up with as long as she gets to hang out with the "popular kids" because she believes it will make everything better. She's often mean to her sister who for the most part is quite nice to her. If Isabelle really wanted to be mean to someone it should be her mother who was also a really frustrating character. She was always crying out loud at night, not even caring if her kids can hear her, she was never strong for her children. Isabelle who is only 13 and her little sister April who was only 10 were taking care of themselves and often taking care of their mother. The mom just didn't seem to realize that she wasn't the only one dealing with the loss, her kids were to. Other than these 2 characters, the story had a very good message to it, it teaches a person to not assume they know someone just because they look a certain way. Never judge a book by it's cover.
RECOMMENDED TO:
I recommend this story to whoever judges a person by the way they look because appearances can be deceiving. This story has real problems teens face so I suggest it to those who are 12 and over.
