Bloodsucking Fiends by Christopher Moore
5.0
This book is FANTASTIC. Moore is a great writer. I'm a fan of the vampire genre, so that was part of the reason I loved this book so much, but his great writing was equally responsible. I CANNOT wait to read the second book as well as his other stuff. Which is funny because it took me a couple of chapters to get into it.
I adored Tommy in this book, but I think my favorite characters in this book hands down was the Emperor and his men. The image of Bummer and Lazarus in their "armor" was hilarious. I will never look at homeless men the same way again.
I wasn't that crazy about the main character, Jody, but the rest of the characters were so well developed that I enjoyed the book immensely. To give a good idea of how much I enjoyed it, although all of the books I read are borrowed from the library, I will be buying this one to keep.
So the storyline. A young woman named Jody is turned into a vampire for the amusement of a much older vampire in the area. The book follows her adjustment and relationships while cops in San Francisco try to solve a series of related, mysterious murders. The book is part crime novel, part suspense, part comedy, part love story and definitely a bit whacky.
