Someone on twitter said this is a really good monster f****r novel and I was like aw yeah all right!! But it was totally different to that and so much better. Really crisply written; lots of really lovely moments and good characterisation, hit all of the genre beats I do want as a monster fantasy YA lover while also digging into some concepts and themes that felt quite original to me. Enjoyable as an adult but I could also imagine gifting it to a teenage relative for the complex explorations of human (?) behaviour. Can’t wait till their next book is available for pre-order in Australia.
