It feels wrong to give a book about the Holocaust just one star, but it's the writing of the book and not Lale's story itself that I'm rating. The writing is very simplistic; the characters and relationships lack depth, and the story is written in a way that doesn't evoke emotions. I expected this book to make me feel deeply, but I felt almost nothing at all. Lale's story should have been written by a more competent author; one that could have brought it to life and not made it fall flat.
Graphic: Genocide, Hate crime, Torture, and Antisemitism
Moderate: Child death
