Bitterblue
by Kristin Cashore
Ok so I did enjoy this book I just was confused a lot more than the other books, and I wasn't a fan of the plot progression.
Ok, so this book follows BitterBlue 9 years after King Leck (her father and a tyrant) died. So after being queen for 9 years things start to not be making sense and BitterBlue decides that she wants to see the world for herself. so one night she leaves the castle for the first time by herself and finds the room where they tell amazing stories that entrap the audience. There she meets Teddy and Saf and they help her to learn about the kingdom that she doesn't know and about things that aren't adding up.
Ok so I had some beef with the plot, so I enjoyed the beginning I thought it started off well and it hooked me as a reader. I'm a fan of adventure-type books so when BitterBlue leaves the castle and is sneaking around I was very intrigued. But when she stopped I felt like it didn't make sense, because being in the streets and being able to meet these people without them knowing was a big part of her character development, and when it just sort of ended it felt incomplete and unnecessary.
Next, when her problems start to add up I felt very overwhelmed, by that I mean we kept getting so many new problems that it was hard to keep up with what was going on. And when things finally did get solved it felt wrong and incomplete. By this, I mean what was the point of having fire and people from the dells enter the story? it was so sudden and it didn't fit with what BitterBlue was trying to do as a character. Also, BitterBlue could have used a win, in the end, 3 of her advisors died she was betrayed beyond belief and couldn't trust anyone except for like 5 people. And then Saf leaves with the Dellians like the whole plot of BitterBlue and Saf felt incomplete and unnecessary like she needed a win especially after like the 300 pages Saf became irrelevant he was barely mentioned and caused more harm than good to BitterBlue.
Though some things that I did enjoy were the character development each character was well rounded and unique in their own way. and also the world development, through out this book was not only learn about Monsea we are also learning about Estill, Nander, Middlims, and Lenid. And each kingdom has a different government system and the citizens are different and they have different customs most noticeable is the Lenid gold earrings and rings.
Overall I found this book very intriguing but the first will always be my favorite. And I am unsure if I am going to continue to read the rest of the series. But no hate on the author I do truly enjoy her books this one was just not for me.
