Ex-Heroes by Peter Clines
3.0
I recently read my first superhero novel. I find the sub-genre funny.
I've also read [a:Peter Clines|3396842|Peter Clines|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/authors/1314048538p2/3396842.jpg] book [b:14|15062217|14|Peter Clines|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1338999953s/15062217.jpg|20716929], which I liked. This book is his first book. Its a a mash-up of the comic book superhero and Zombie horror genres. Its a little rough in places. However, the permutation of Superheroes vs. Zombies is weird enough to make-up for the weaknesses.
I find the author's thesis, that superheros can save individuals, but they likely can't save all of humanity no matter how superpowered they may be, to be the story's most interesting plot-line.
This story isn't a deep read. Its a novelized graphic novel, as trope-ridden as any superhero comic book. I found it to be an airy confection, that I burned right though. I read half the book in a single sitting, that's something I rarely do. The other half took a little longer, and was a bit anticlimactic.
I'm going to read the next in the series [b:Ex-Patriots|17162429|Ex-Patriots (Ex-Heroes, #2)|Peter Clines|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1364852618s/17162429.jpg|16919836].
