I was not prepared for this beautiful high fantasy novel. I am a big fan of her world building and descriptive prose. Hazel blew me away!
It has a Scottish theme and a descriptive prose. It reminded me of the Disney movie Brave X House of the Dragon.
There is a lot of Scottish Gaelic verbiage. I’m adding a glossary of words I didn’t know the meanings of in case it helps someone else out.
Glossary:
Bannocks- round flat bread
Beathach/beathaichean - beast
Breithday- birthday
Caisteal - castle
Cèilidh- social gathering
Copar- copper
A chuisle- my pulse
Dorchadas- darkness
Duileach- elemental
Fearsolais- light bringer

A ghràidh- my love
Sgian-dubh- Scottish knife
