Glory by NoViolet Bulawayo

I struggled to get into the book at first, it forced me to slow down to take in each word, each story and really grasp the narrative. There was so much the book was saying and I wanted to hear it all quickly. As I went on, the book forced me to think of the contexts, the stories that this book was built on, it didn't have filler but rather used its words to the fullest extent. The book follows the story of a fictional African nation with an authoritarian government and follows the fight for liberation, freedom and justice in a post-colonial world. Through the careful choice of different animals as characters, each choice symbolises the nature of each to portray the effects of different issues in African society. It was a beautiful and poignant read, very close to my heart.
