A Certain Hunger
by Chelsea G. Summers
I don’t know how to rate this. It’s an incredibly well written book. The main character is grotesque and fascinating. And yet, I am unsure about it as an experience. I am not a huge fan of gore or horror so this was bit of a departure for me. It was recommended by a book store clerk, and I thank her for it. Reading outside my comfort zone is fun sometimes. Dorothy is an interesting narrator, quite detached. It’s clear that is on purpose, but of course, it’s hard to like her. I’m also not a huge foodie, so a lot of the food described was unappealing. However, the food is intricately described and is perfect for her character. This was literary feast (I found another review using that term, it’s accurate.) I’m glad I read it, and I’ll likely think on it some more.
