It was enjoyable to fill in the blanks of what Bones was up to whilst out of view from Kat as per the originals. The technology updates made a lot of sense.

However, I still find the British “accent” so disconcerting it throws me out of the story. It also felt quite disjointed at times, very much a story made to fit around the previous one, rather than a fully fleshed one of its own. I’m a fan of insta love tropes, but the internal tone of bones felt off for the first 60% of the book. It settled in towards the end enough that I would like to read the next one, though I’m hoping it covers more of the
4 year gap
so we can see him as a character in his own right…
