This Thing Between Us by Gus Moreno

5.0

I really liked this book. Setting a horror story within all encompassing grief is brilliant. Grief is a main character and Moreno's descriptions are vivid. Then the perfect villain, an unidentifiable fear, a demon or curse or both or is it ourselves, our legacy. This book has a slow burn of creepiness that ebbs and flows to unexpected super natural events.  Expectations of how to act, our past, technology intertwined in life, media spectales, death in society and how we don't actually deal with any of it. And what that leaves us open to, what that can make us do and become, what can get us. Dreams, reality, life, death, and anything that's in-between is fair game to terrify readers in this book. The ending is exactly how it ended, like all endings.
