First venture into Sarah Gailey and it was a quick read once I finally hunkered down to read it. The concept immediately grabbed my attention, and I think it was executed fairly well. The idea of queer, cowboy-esque librarians is dope af, and I wouldn’t mind seeing this adapted into a limited series; I think it’d be really successful!

As a novella, it is fairly successful. I think for being a third person perspective, we get stuck in Esther’s head A LOT. It would have been nice to have a little less of that and more interactions between characters. All in all, Esther really doesn’t ‘change’ or develop in any significant way aside from her now deciding to actually
join the Librarians which you kinda expected by the halfway point of this novel. The predictability isn’t bad, but I wish we had actually seen Esther push herself further out of her comfort zone.

Not a bad read at all, and I’m definitely gonna check out more Sarah Gailey!
