I read this with my girls and was disappointed. We enjoy reading middle grade literature, and I was so excited for this one as it was magical--which my girls love! They would always groan when I suggested listening to it--which is odd. Something in the prose didn't work for them. I think, perhaps, the older style might have been too slow. ??? But there are other classic children's literature they've loved. We've even read some slower adult fiction (that didn't have anything age inappropriate). I honestly am not sure why they disliked it so much. Just wanted to share a review that it was not enjoyed by my 8 and 10 year olds that typically enjoy middle grade books with a pinch of magic.
