So would this book exist without being connected to Transformers?  

I have to be honest, I don't think so.  I really don't care about these two warring people at the center of this.  Darak and Solila are...fine.  Mostly I like Darak okay, but Solila is tiresome and frankly I like Handroid more than both of them put together and his "personality" can be boiled down to funny comments.

Then there is all the background characters.  Skuxxoid the pig snake man I am starting to find interesting.  Happy to see Hotrod pop in, but Springer?  Who the heck is that?  This book plays it like I should be all excited to see him, but I don't even know who he is, which brings me to my biggest problem with this series.  It is over reliant on nostalgia.  I'm supposed to care because these characters were in some cartoon 40 years ago....well, honestly I don't
