I think the plot itself and world building were good, although the mc is sort of chosen one and quite literally is good at everything. There were times that I was rooting for him.
The big majority of the first book takes place in a large battle field with bases so if that’s not your thing, you are probably not going to like it.
The author does a lot of tell not show. Oddly enough it didn’t bother me too much, but there were times I would have liked more banter between the characters so that I could feel for them.
The misogyny is a major issue with this book. Just the way women are treated or described took me out of the book multiple times.
