in brandon taylor's second novel we get what he's good at. beautiful sentences about complicated characters in messy situations. while the form used is slightly jarring, by the final third we've been introduced to a myriad of characters, none of whom are protagonists, but all speaking towards a certain condition human beings are plagued by. of course i love a campus novel so opening the novel in a poetry tutorial with pretentious students is exactly my vibe. what i wish there was less of...vibes. like i get it and i love vibes but wow at some stage i had to put it down. taylor's first novel had it's fair share of vibes but it just expertly balanced it with an effective and innovative form that paid off in a great way. all in all, i loved this, and can't wait for his next novel.
