The Chhau Champ (hOle Book): Story of a young girl aspiring to become a Chhau dancer by Priya Kuriyan, Priya Kuriyan

5.0

It is a very cute, little, and beautiful children's book that is full of knowledge. In this story, there is a young girl named Subhashree, who aspires to become a chaau dancer. It is a traditional dance form that originated in eastern India and is done with colourful masks. That little girl lives in a small village in Bengal and dreams of performing onstage as a professional chhau dancer. But her father disapproves of this and wants her to focus on her studies. However, she is determined to follow her dreams and become a champion in this dance form.
The book is written in a very simple and effective writing style and the author does a great job of capturing the characters' voices. It shows us the determination, perseverance and importance of following one's dreams through that little girl and her brother.
All the characters in the book are very well developed and play a great role in each other's journey which also shows their strength in one another while exploring the depth of chhau dance. The descriptions of the dance form are very vivid and detailed and they bring the story to life along with its art which is another add-on to the book. All of those illustrations are so beautiful and colourful that they help to capture your mood according to the story.
Overall, the chahu champ is a must-read for anyone who enjoys children's books with a thought-provoking and engaging storyline. It deals with themes that can be adapted by readers of any generation and age with its unit perspective of the dancing world. It is a recommendation from my side for whoever is looking for a captivating read.
