This is an amazing novel! I know it can seem a little intimidating and daunting because it is such a large book, but do not let its size fool you, it is a fairly quick read. I do not mean that in a cheap sense, rather, in that the author makes you become so immersed in the characters and the story that you do not want to put the book down.
There were times when reading this that I openly wept on the bus on my way to- and -from school, where I openly laughed or cried or shook in muted rage during the morning's silent reading time. This is a novel I will be forever grateful for having read because it had so many deep and powerful moments that struck a chord with me, whether I realized it or not.
This would be a good novel for anyone to read, given that you do not shy away from very serious issues like poverty, starvation, suicide, mandatory castration, and so on.
