Heart Bones is a story about a girl named Beyah who grows up in poverty with an addict mother who passes away. She reaches out to her dad who she has only met a handle of times in her life and asks to come and visit him for the summer in Texas. This is where she meets Samson, someone who she views as super wealthy and rich, who is completely the opposite to her. Little does she know, they actually have a lot more in common and she starts falling for him. However does she know him or hardly know him as is secrets start to unveil?

This is the first Colleen Hoover book that I have read. I went in with no expectations and came out the other side in awe of Beyah and Samsons story. I really felt for Beyah and what she went through in her childhood. I know it’s a fictional story but it’s something that definitely happens in real life which makes it hard to read.

Beyah and Samson’s relationship was emotional to follow, however at some points throughout the book I could guess Samson’s story. It was heartwarming to see their similarities with one another, although Samson’s truth could be seen as a warning to a lot of people. I also really liked following the connection between Beyah and her father, alongside her new stepmother and sister. She struggles to fit in at first and open up about everything she went through, but she comes out the end with a family and an education. Heart Bones was a good read and I’m looking forward to reading more of Colleen Hoover’s books.
