I didn’t pick this up right away, but after all the “controversy,” I had to see for myself. And truthfully? I really enjoyed it—but I also think all the noise around it got in my head and made it harder to settle on my rating. (Sometimes it’s 3.5 sometimes it’s 4)

At its core, this is enemies-to-lovers set against a brutal war where both sides are deeply flawed. Some readers have taken issue with the moral gray-ness of the romance, but for me, I was able to separate the fictional world from my real-world beliefs. Because the politics weren’t clearly defined and everyone was messy, I never saw it as a direct parallel to our world.

And honestly? That messy grayness made it more addictive. It was hard to put down because I was constantly torn about where my emotions should land.

Wren: a psychic (“mod”) forced to hide her abilities in a world that sees her kind as the enemy.
Cross: the broody, magnetic captain of the elite block she’s forced to train for.

The tension between them is undeniable—dangerous, forbidden, and very sexy. Cross is sharp edges and authority, Wren is secrets and defiance, and their push-and-pull walks the line between betrayal and desire. Predictable at times? Sure. But the slow-burn payoff (and the heat ❤️‍🔥) made it so worth it.

If you love messy moral landscapes, forbidden powers, and enemies-to-lovers chemistry that sizzles, this one delivers.
