Truth's Daughter: Legacy of Divorce by Barbara Santarelli, Barbara Santarelli

5.0

This a powerful emotional memoir.
It’s the 1950’s and Barbara has always been curious about her father Charles, her mother never got over him rejecting her and leaving her to take care of the children on her own. They live in the Bronx and struggle daily to make ends meet, they try to make an adventure out of it. The handful times she did meet her father it was awkward and uncomfortable with stories of his unfaithfulness. As she grew older she wanted to understand the man who so willingly left her and her brother and mother. So she makes it her mission to untangle and decipher what was true and figure out on her own her families past.
My heart broke for the author, I was left as a child by mother and raised by my dad and it’s been something I have had to live with, I went to therapy for this and it helped. I could understand the authors curiosity and wanting to know her own hidden past. Four stars!
