First and foremost, this book was just a lot of FUN. I read it in one day; once I picked it up, I found that I just couldn't put it down. It got a little absurd at the end, but you know what? I didn't care, because I was having fun.
I didn't work out who the murderer was, but I loved the choice. I did guess some other aspects, like Louisa being pregnant. I'm also pretty sure Mary is a werewolf, I need to know more about that. I saw someone say that this reads a bit like a satire on the regency mystery/romance genre, and I can see that. There's certainly a kind of playfulness to it all - sometimes a wink wink/nod nod, sometimes just very on the nose.
It ties up somewhat neatly at the end while still leaving easy room for the sequel.I hope Caroline returns - she's SO over the top, and yet I kinda love her. I also hope we get some mention of Arabella living her best life with Sophie in Paris. I'm excited to spend more time with these characters, and will certainly be reading book 2.
