Upon receiving a diagnosis of terminal cancer on her fortieth birthday, Hester drops her life as an attorney in NYC and drives cross-country to kill her father. Along the way she picks up John, an environmental activist armed with a camera, who chronicles waste sites. The writing is sharp and smart and the book could have easily devolved into a saccharine or cliche ending, but it does not. An entertaining, thoughtful novel.
