The Game of War: The Trials of Dantess, Warrior Priest by Glen Dahlgren

adventurous

5.0

This book had me gripped right from the start! It's a prequel, and the first book I have read in the series.

As always with a fantasy story,  there is a lot of world building to be done in the first book.  This can sometimes lead to chunks of text where not much happens. But not with  The Game of War! Glen has interwoven the world building and the storyline sublimely.

This was a brilliant coming of age story about Dantess, who not only has to battle with the usual teenage angst, but also the outward battle of being a priest of war with a famous grandfather. Dantess has difficult choices to make, and those choices don't only affect him.

This book really had it all.  Myths, magic, and pirates! Don't forget the pirates. I'm excited for the next book in the series.
