Adunni is the bravest, most determined and hopeful protagonist I’ve read about in a while. But her story is beyond tragic, almost obscenely so - this book is not for the faint of heart. Read the content warnings before starting. It’s hard to recommend a book that is so tragically sad and traumatic. The writing was great, the voice narration is the best I’ve listened to but danggggg it’s a sad book.

Also, if you need a reality check on your privilege, read this book. If you want to feel rage about the treatment of women and girls, read this book.
The amount of joy is small and the pay off of Adunni coming out on top at the end doesn’t feel as good as compared to the amount of tragedy it took to get there.
