"Interesting Facts About Space" by Emily Austin is a captivating read that introduces us to Enid, a hard-of-hearing, neurodiverse, and highly anxious space enthusiast. Enid's love for the universe is matched only by her collection of phobias, which include a fear of bald men, fire, and the unsettling thought that someone might break into her apartment. Despite her belief that she has a parasite that makes her unlikeable, Enid emerges as an incredibly likable character.

One of her quirkiest and most entertaining personality traits is her fear of bald men, which leads to some truly hilarious yet heart-aching moments. Enid's life is filled with true crime podcasts and online dating adventures, and she also navigates the relationship with her sick mother and best friend, as well as forging new relationships with her half-sisters following the death of her absentee father.

The plot progresses leisurely until the final third, but this doesn't detract from the enjoyment. Getting to know Enid is a delight in itself. As the story unfolds, Enid bravely confronts her phobias and begins to explore potentially repressed memories. This sets up a subtle mystery and a heartfelt journey of self-discovery. The narrative skillfully balances serious themes with a lighthearted and humorous tone, making it both engaging and enjoyable. I wholeheartedly recommend adding this book to your "to-be-read" list. I cannot wait to add other books, including my Emily Austin, to my pile!
