Dark, twisted, difficult... and told in the way only Pam Godwin can.
Beneath the Burn is full of dark themes and events, the characters experience tr@uma, violence, and danger unlike any dark romance I've ever read. And while yes, there's a HEA, it's hard fought and hard won. Buckle up, and please check TW on the author's website if needed.
The plot of this book is absolutely wild. Full of unexpected moments, twists and turns and heart-stopping emotion. You may think you can expect what's about to happen, you may have an idea of how something will unfold, and you'll swiftly find out you're incorrect. I love that Pam kept me guessing with each turn of the page.
The romantic and physical connection of the main characters is a push/pull, one that will make your heart ache for what each of them has endured while you blush with what they desire. While you overheat for how they collide. There's no shortage of scars (emotional and physical), and healing comes with great effort and unimaginable cost, but I really enjoyed their dynamic. They're hurt and flawed, often very much so, but willing to do whatever it takes for one another.
Writing style, in true Pam Godwin fashion, is captivating, and made me shed a tear or two before the end.
I become a bigger and bigger Pam Fan with each of her books that I read, and while I do recommend picking this up if you're a dark romance reader like me, just know that you're in for some pain before the pleasure.
Thank you SO MUCH to Pam Godwin for a digital copy of Beneath the Burn and the opportunity to leave an honest, voluntary review!
All thoughts and opinions are my own, and I swiftly purchased a signed copy from her shop when I was like halfway through because I knew it needed to join my collection. 🤍
