This volume of the first five issues of the series expertly sets the table for what I hope will be a long running series. The story involves corrupt mega corporations, religious orders, and governments; very much about our present world, but put into a science fictional context. The characters are an interesting and motley group that reminds me of other properties such as Cowboy Bebop or Saga. The background is expansive, with a solar system full of different worlds and creatures to explore. The painted artwork by Christian Ward is beautiful, although his space battles are sometimes a bit confusing. Why was this not on the Hugo Award ballot!
