Think Again
by Jacqueline Wilson
i forgive you Jacqueline because of the nostalgia but you're on thin ice.......
*spoilers*
this would have been 10x better if Gary the creepy art teacher was thrown in the bin. i hated EVERYTHING about their relationship and it got dragged out for way too long. and ALSO her cousin Nigel.... just... what? literally gave nothing to the plot. both of these "narratives" just made me feel extremely icky and honestly ruined most of the book for me
the Alice plotline was okay and I always love a bit of queer representation but it didn't feel very genuine and sorry who suddenly makes friends with someone at a *swimming pool* of all places and then after one conversation, goes and gets a tattoo together on the same day..... ok I'm a lesbian and I know we move fast but that is pushing it. I did appreciate the 'later-in-life' queer narrative as I don't think this story is told enough, but would have loved some more in-depth text about this as it just felt very rushed at the end
anyway like I said Jacqueline I forgive you because you're my childhood and I still did enjoy this book and finished it in a few days. a simple, cosy and nostalgic read even if it was a bit eeeeek in places
