In my opinion this book is such an important read. The way this book handles DV is so respectful and the inside/outside POV between Iris or August approached this topic from a fresh perspective.
The parts of the book which stood out the most for me were:
  • • when Iris called "hopscotch"
  • • what Mimi says to Iris during the cleanse
  • • Iris finally getting to tell her mom / aunt off
  • • The relationship between lo and Iris
  • • The time, space, and consistency August gives Iris while she heals even though he didn't not know exactly what she had gone through
