Some Girls: My Life in a Harem by Jillian Lauren
3.0

Lauren herself admits that the harem culture she experienced changed rapidly after she left, so it's not as if this is a timeless book about something you could still find, but it is an interesting book about a particular place in a particular time. Lauren manages to tell a story about sex work without sensationalizing the sexy parts. She also keeps a decent narrative going while still giving plenty of interesting detail, which not every memoir writer manages to accomplish. I could have gone for less religious furor about her tattoo, but everything else in the book was strong.
