Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan
4.0

Egan weaves together historical fiction, mystery, and family dynamics in this book set in the Depression and WWII. Three main characters swirl in and out of each others lives (literally and figuratively). I was surprisingly drawn into the work of the divers in NYC working on the ships during war. I love learning something new from novels, and I had no idea of their role much less how the divers worked. This was def a more straightforward novel than Visit from the Goon Squad (which I loved), and at times it meandered and lost me, but the characters were haunting.
