I had more fun with these two books by Lynn Painter than I thought I would. I have always enjoyed YA novels and I like sappy romance, so I should have known these would be great for me.
I read a lot of negative reviews for this sequel, but I was so engrossed in this world and with these characters that I wanted to give Nothing Like the Movies a shot. Boy was I glad I did! This book surpassed number one for me. I loved the first book, but there was something about this book that really got to me. It was still humorous, I love the way Painter goes into the character's heads and vocalizes their thoughts. I love that the unexpected and sometimes most nightmarish (yet humorous) situations happen to make us laugh. I loved that Painter went into both Wesley and Liz's head in this book, it allowed us to get to know more about Wes. I loved the side characters and their stories. And I loved the emotional storyline about loss and forgiving oneself to overcome adversity. Not only did I laugh out loud when reading this, but there were times I teared up.
The only thing I did not appreciate in this book was the swearing. I thought the swearing in book one was not great, but this book doubled the swearing and that kind of annoyed me. It was present more in Wes's chapters than in Liz's which I guess Painter did on purpose, but I think the book could have done without so much of it.
Regardless of this, I am sad to find myself done with this world and these characters. I think these will be books I revisit time and again.
