The Days of Abandonment by Elena Ferrante

5.0

There is a reason that this is the Italian author’s most celebrated novel outside of the Neapolitan Quartet. This is a story rich in language, emotions and wisdom. It is a story that is about more than motherhood or relationships; it is about the monotony of life, how we harness our world around that of others and depend upon routine; it is about the fragility of this structure and the complex consequences that come with its unravelling. The author powerfully and eloquently captures the instability of the mind, as the protagonist questions her own identity and, philosophically, the meaning of her life.
