"Living every day in the presence of those who refuse to acknowledge your humanity takes great courage."

This is everything.
From Family to class to love to identity and womanhood.

I wasn’t even surprised when I saw that the author took more than ten years to write this and I accept that I would never ever be able to craft such a complex and beautifully realistic (feeling?) story even if I had all the means and time in the world for it.

Min Jin Lee crafted an epic story that features complex and thought out characters whom I could not help but love like i love my own family: be annoyed sometimes, disagree with their choice, but love them all the same.

Sunja was like a daughter, sister and mother to me. At the same time.
