The Arrangement by Joan Wolf

3.0

This is a Regency romance for grownups. Joan Wolf writes just okay; nothing special and for years I refused to read her because I realized her writing was dull. But corona lock downs change everything and I find that during this quiet period these romances can keep me up until midnight. This is the first one I have read. It was written midway between her 40 or so novels and it tells the story of Gail Saunders who is sought out by the Earl of Savile to accompany him to the reading of the will of George, Lord Devane due to the legacy he has left her son, Nicolas. What is different in this romance is that quite early on, Gail becomes Savile's mistress. The sex scenes are written with just enough detail and not too much. There is the mystery of the legacy and another mystery that Savile must solve which of course he does. Hopefully, Wolf's writing gets better later on.
