When Kingdoms Fall by Callie Dahl

I would like to start this off by saying this is the worst book hangover I’ve had in a long time. I finished this book and just didn’t know what to do with myself. I write this as I’m slowly trying to piece myself back together.
This book had it all! Elves, fae, Gods, Sorcery, blood magic, oh and of course a curse! There was so much to unravel going through this read. The story has a ton of world-building, which happens throughout the whole read. So do not be upset if you’re not understanding something right from the beginning because it will be explained in time.
The writing was amazing. I was able to picture scenes perfectly in my head. With all the action, adventure in this book it was definitely nice to be able to do that. Let me tell you, I could picture myself in the Wylan Woods and it was absolutely haunting….and I loved every minute of it!
Throughout this story we follow the point of view of 3 different characters. In the beginning, the changes got to be a little confusing for me. I couldn’t quite place the timeline of when things were happening but after the first couple chapters it got easier for me to understand. Each of our main characters are on their own separate journey but of course along the way they become intertwined. I found each of the character’s stories to be compelling in their own unique ways. I found myself wanting to learn more and more. Rooting for them at times, but also berating them for mistakes and choices they made. Even following 3 different characters you could see the development (small or large) from each of them. I cannot wait to see what else is to come for our main characters in the next book.
I honestly believe this story has all the things a fantasy lover craves in a story. I do want to clarify that this story is definitely story/plot driven. Not really a romantasy. There is a romance but it is a super super slow burn, with more burning continuing into the next one. With that being said, I still loved it! The action and adventure had me entertained enough that the tiny bits of romance was just a plus added to the mix. Now I will be painfully awaiting the next book in the series to help cure this book hangover I’ll have for months to come. It’s definitely worth it though!
