This is my favourite Bond film, and so far the only Bond book I read. The film stands out in its difference to the rest of the franchise, but since I haven't yet read others I don't know it the book is.
The Bond character portrays quite differently to any of the Bonds in the film. Much more calculated. I guess Casino Royal's Craig would be the closest to how I picture him in book.
While the film is too stripped from most gadgets and Q has no part at all, in the book Bond is really quite the MacGyver, not like in any of the Bond films. He's much less smooth and cool than Sean Connery and Roger Moore, but also Lazenby and Dalton. Anyone would be cooler than Brosnan!
Surprisingly I loved film Tracy more than book Tracy, but Diana Rigg is gorgeous! But at the same time I think the relationship between them, perhaps for obvious reasons, was much stronger and better in the book than in the film. I adored them as a couple, which made the ending and the fact that I knew it all the more upsetting.
Fabulous read I loved it!
