I really liked this book, initially. It starts out as a nice, classic straightforward fantasy. The beginning actually reminds me of the movie Krull a lot. You don't care a lot about the underlying mythology or world and just go with the plot. But then there's a solid 100 pages of torture. I get it, she makes him his S&M slave. Whichever editor thought that was a good idea should probably have rethought this decision. But it's a best seller so what do I know? In any event, it wrecked the book for me. Not reading the rest of the series.
