Seeing Red by Sandra Brown
5.0

This was a pretty short, fast-paced and sweet read. If you're a fan of Sandra Brown (as I am), you shall not be disappointed. The main characters are well-written and the mystery's plot twists are unpredictable. SB created a world of characters that you could really care about and wove a story that gripping and concise. There was a romantic aspect to the story, but it clearly played second fiddle to the mystery which I appreciated. When SB chose to focus on the romance, it was sweet and satisfying. It's not as erotic as her other books, but it worked well with the story.

The characters were entertaining, especially the lead hero: John Trapper. This man was snarky, sarcastic, smart and mostly funny. I cannot remember the last time I read a book with more likeable asshole vibes. SB's heroes are usually similar - work in law enforcement, brash, rude, smart and sexy but John had a hint of playfulness that is missing in her other heroes. However, clearly he's not meant for everyone. I'm sure that there will be some readers who will not enjoy his smartass comments all of the time.

The heroine was also strong and independent. Most of SB's heroines are. She was also not just a wimpering female, waiting to be saved, which I appreciated. However, she did fade into the background for most of the events - it was Trapper's show for the most part.

In conclusion, great book. I want SB to keep writing forever.
