Clariel: The Lost Abhorsen
by Garth Nix
I loved this installment of the Abhors series as much as I loved the original trilogy. Garth Nix has a great writing style and his characters have a wonderful depth.
I especially loved that Clariel isn't your typical hero. She's almost an anti-hero. The "greatness thrust upon them" hero. And her entire being holds onto that idea the whole book. She never set out for justice or to do what's right and she stayed true to herself even when making monumental mistakes. So while she isn't the gung-ho heroine out to defeat evil and right the kingdom, she still kicked ass and fought for what she wanted. And that's something I admire. She's not the hero she was just the one to get it done.
