Bless the Daughter Raised by a Voice in Her Head
by Warsan Shire
emotional
reflective
tense
medium-paced
The only word I can think of to describe my experience with this book is visceral. These poems are so violent but also beautiful? At times I felt like I'd been punched in the gut but then it was followed up by a tender moment shared between women in the book and I just thought, wow how relevant this is to some of my own experiences as a woman. Another sort of contradicting thought I had about this was that this collection of poetry is very specific, but the emotions it evoked in me felt universal.
I cannot wait to read more from Warsan Shire.
