I’m happy to report that picking this up for the third time was in fact— the charm.
The hesitation I had picking up Kingdom of Ash was very much valid. I am full of so much emotion.. at what transpired in this book, at the series being over, at the emptiness I feel knowing I now have to part ways with a series I started back in 2016. Of course I can reread these books, but the feeling of that first read is incomparable.
I will without a doubt be revisiting this world & its characters in the future. So for now, I'll say see you again soon.
As a certain character says on page 977—

”I’m going to have a terrible headache from all this crying.”
