Animal Man, Volume 3: Rotworld: The Red Kingdom by Scott Snyder, Jeff Lemire, Steve Pugh, Yanick Paquette

2.0

The art is just as amazing as always, but the writing drives me bonkers. Every time I return to this series, I hope that it will be different - that Ellen will be less of a bitch, that Buddy will be less selfish, that Maxine will be less stupid...but it isn't. This plus the fact that the plot has been the same for three straight books now: the rot advances, they infect one of Buddy's family, sad faces all around, repeat.

The one thing of note in this is the bizarro Arcane future where other DC characters are now zombified agents of the rot (my favourite is Wonder Woman with her giant mane of hair and sharp pointy teeth). The introduction of Frankenstein, Grodd and a new Green Lantern help to keep this from being a complete waste, but I'm done with Animal Man himself.
