You & Me at the End of the World
by Brianna Bourne
I’ve decided on 2.5 stars, rounded down because of the use of the words “shredtastic” and “#instalove” (it had the hashtag and everything).
This book was nothing special. It was basic YA romance, kind of bland and predictable. All the things I feel about this book I already discussed in book club, like how the apocalypse storyline was just used as a device to drive the romance, and how I felt that the main characters were underdeveloped (they actually did get better as the book went on). There was a lot of self-Inserting in here, which was obvious once I realized it. The writing was a bit immature, especially for Leo’s voice, but Hannah and Leo’s voice were distinguishable, which was appreciated.
That being said, the romance was cute I guess, and it really did seem like a slow burn even though the whole book took place in the course of three days. How is that even possible? Haha. I just wish I’d gotten more with the plot instead of this being solely character driven (usually I’m all for character driven stories, but lately I’ve been focused on plots more and more!).
This book was simple fun. It was a good way to take my mind off of things. It was just kinda basic, which isn’t bad all the time. Basic is just what I needed right now.
☞ 2.5 stars (it was ok/I liked it)
