A Broken Blade
by Melissa Blair
This book is a huge mish mash of a bunch of popular tropes and fantasy elements, I can see why so many might love it. In my case, I'm afraid neither the characters nor the plot really got me engaged. I really wanted to love it but felt like I've read this story so often in bits and pieces of other books.
I'm also not sure how I feel about a main character struggling with alcoholism. While, I understand why the character might lose herself in the drink so to speak, I also feel like it would make her success in her missions nose dive as well. So I found the fact she was still successful despite stumbling about a bit unrealistic.
Content warnings to consider: alcoholism, sexism, violence and other usual warnings seen in fantasy.
