Pachinko by Min Jin Lee
5.0

Wow, this was really good. Loved how Min Jin Lee told this story about this family and all the different threads and interspersed commentary on belonging, fate, consequences, inevitability, struggle, all of it was just so well done. Long book but it flew by, tore up the pages for real. I knew a bit about Japanese colonization of Korea but I feel like I learned a lot about the experience of Koreans living in Japan and now I want to learn so much more and the variety of experiences and insight in this book is just so good. I'm a sucker for personal narratives that illustrate broader points and also the imagined communities quotation before the third part? Fellow history major I see you Ms. Lee, we see each other.
