"Cash and Troy are both wrapped up with Piper and Angie. They are so loved up that sometimes it’s hard to watch. Especially when I wish I had that... Troy drops a kiss on [Angie's] cheek, causing her to blush. God, I wish I had that. I ignore the first face that pops into my mind, because I can’t have it with her. Bexley is so far out of my league, it’s not even funny."
When you start your book with the dedication: "To all the badass women out there made to feel less than you are. Take up space. You're worth it." You know you're in for a great ride. Maybe the feminine rage fire's flames will get a little higher as the female boss deals with annoying, sexist men, but if I've learned anything from reading so many Emily Silver books, it's that she can be trusted. And this was no exception.
"This is easy. Sitting here and talking with her about anything and everything... Why can’t it always be like this? There’s no front either of us are putting on. It’s only us. What you see is what you get. Maybe this is why it’s so hard for us? People expect us to be entirely different people than who we really are... I want Bex to be someone I can count on. I want to tell her all that, but I’ve already spewed enough on her tonight."
Bexley never has to shrink herself with Nick. And even when she does to appease society, he gives her the reassurance and confidence to boost her back up. THAT is what a strong partner does. And, like a good partner herself, she gives it right back to him when he's doubting himself. While the story is fantastic, it's THIS element, their perfectly imperfect parts that are openly accepted and loved by one another, that makes this story amazing. The authentic way their relationship grows throughout the book is adorable and I completely "ship" Nick and Bex! I'm so excited to see how other readers respond because Emily really clapped this one between the pipes. (Hopefully I just said she scored in "hockey speak" but if I just used offensive language... my bad, I'm a hockey romance fan, not a hockey sport fan. 🥴)
Moderate: Sexism
Minor: Cursing and Alcohol
