Reread: I enjoyed this more the scond read. I wasn't as nervous about the angstiness and felt the emotions more. I really liked Clem and Ed together. Upgrading it to 3.75 stars. Reread in preparation for Pause.
Original review from 3/19: 3.5-3.75 stars. While this was a pretty good read, I'm a bit conflicted on this book. I liked it, but it felt very rushed. I don't know how many pages this book was, but the fast pace made it feel like a novella, even though I don't think it was.
Repeat is Clementine/Clem and Ed's book. Clementine is attacked and mugged one night, and when she awakens, she has amnesia. She doesn't remember anyone or anything about her family or friends before her attack. She is surprised to run into a man, Ed, who tells her she was his girlfriend and recently broke up with him, breaking his heart. He is angry and bitter towards her, but Clem feels he can help her learn who she was before the accident. She tries to gain answers from Ed, but he resists at first. Still, it soon becomes obvious that Clem's attack may not have been random and that someone has it out for her. Ed still has feelings for the Clem he knew, despite her breaking his heart, and wants to help protect her. As they spend time together, the two fall for each other again.
I did enjoy this book. The story was interesting and different. I liked Clementine and Ed. I didn't hate the "old Clem" like some of the other reviewers did. She seemed like a nice person before, who made a few mistakes. Her personality is changed after her amnesia. She is more outspoken, has no filter and is now spunkier, but still a nice person. I liked her both ways and I felt bad for everything she had to go through. Ed, I liked too, but he was not as nice or understanding to Clem's situation as I would have liked, at first. Clem had an attraction to Ed right away on (re)meeting him, even though he was kind of mean to her, and to me that attraction felt forced. Actually, in general, the fast pace of Clem and Ed's relationship and their emotions did not feel realistic to me. It was too rushed for me to feel their actual emotions. So, while I enjoyed the book overall, I felt the characters and their emotions could have been deeper and more fleshed out for them to be believable to me.
Overall, I liked this book. It was a fast paced, easy read. I read it all in one sitting and enjoyed it. I wanted it to slow down a little so I could feel the characters emotions, but I still found it to be an entertaining read. I look forward to more from Ms. Scott in the future!
